Ruins, Ruination, & Reuse

Architecture Enduring Eons

As the title of the course suggests, each project exhibits an idea that is often, willfully or not, neglected by architects. Whether it is the intentional ruining of an iconic architectural element to determine what component of a work of architecture is recognizable (the so called “essence” of that building), the speculative aging of another building to understand how materials behave, or the proposal of a nuclear waste management facility to withstand an inconceivable amount of time, architecture must consider time and aging as an inseparable condition of its function.
